Why San Jose Builds With Abodu.

San Jose is one of the most ADU-friendly cities in California: complete applications are reviewed ministerially within 60 days under state law, the city publishes clear objective standards, and it pioneered programs that make backyard homes easier to approve. Our San Jose ADU guide covers the rules in detail.

That regulatory head start is only half the story. Because every Abodu is built in the factory while your site is being prepared, the two longest parts of a normal project run at the same time. By the time your permit and foundation are ready, the finished home arrives on a truck and is set by crane, typically in one day. That is how San Jose became our number-one city, one backyard at a time.

What San Jose Builds.

The 52 completed San Jose homes break down like this:

The one-bedroom Abodu One is the San Jose favorite: the right size for most lots, the right rent for the market, and the fastest path through review.

An Abodu One At $2,900 A Month.

Assumes the Abodu One expected all-in cost of $324,800, 5% vacancy, $2,400 annual operating costs, and property tax at 1.16% of the ADU's assessed value. Indicative only; your rent and site will differ.

The Whole South Bay, Actually.

Sell Your ADU Like A Condo: AB 1033 In San Jose.

San Jose is the first city in the country to adopt AB 1033, the 2023 California law that lets cities allow homeowners to sell an ADU separately from the primary residence as a condominium. In every other market an ADU is a rental or a guest house. In San Jose it can also be a sellable asset with its own title.

That gives a San Jose Abodu three exits instead of one: rent it at market (see the numbers above), house family, or convert under the city's AB 1033 process and sell the unit on its own while keeping your home. Conversion runs through California's condominium framework, including a recorded condominium plan and lienholder consent, so involve a title company or real estate attorney early. Details and sources are in our San Jose ADU guide.

Built For Fire Country, Ready For Net Zero.

Every San Jose Abodu ships under the same roof as the rest of our fleet: a Class A standing seam metal assembly with zero combustible components, ember-resistant WUI venting, and seams that accept clamp-on solar with zero roof penetrations. Read how we built the most fire-resistant ADU on the market.
